Why Annual Inspections? - Subscribe to Savvy Aviation
Why does the FAA require owners of small GA airplanes to put them through a complete inspection every 12 months, even if they've only flown 40 hours or less since the last inspection? Does it really make sense to open up the wings, empennage, and tailcone and remove the seats, carpets and floorboards to inspect for corrosion every 12 months? In this webinar, Mike Busch A&P/IA explores this issue by pointing out that owners of big boy airplanes like King Airs aren't required to do this, but owners of smaller airplanes are.

One aircraft that's been a big success among others is the Van's RV-12iS. Sebring Aviation in Florida specializes in LSA transition training and has an RV-12iS on its flight line. Aviation Consumer magazine Editor in Chief Larry Anglisano spent some time with Sebring's chief pilot Jason Wilkinson and completed transition training for the airplane and learned some useful tips for others considering the same.

On September 3, 2024, the FAA's Rulemaking Law Division issued a legal interpretation that, if allowed to stand as the Agency's position, could have a devastating impact on the ability of aircraft owners and apprentice mechanics to perform maintenance on certificated aircraft under the supervision of an A&P mechanic.

We as Aircraft Builders, need to take time and get out and fly, just as reminder of how great it will be one day to fly an Airplane that we built ourselves. Today we flew into Cedar Mills Airport (3T0) in Gordonville, Texas . A beautiful and well-kept grass strip worth checking out. Just a short walk to the Pelican's Landing Waterfront Restaurant.
