The Wings of Honor Museum is located on the Historic WWII Walnut Ridge Army Air Field. Five Thousand Three Hundred Ten pilots trained here during WWII. The air field was also used by the Marine Corps from September 1944 until the spring of 1945.
Following the war, some say 10,000 warbirds were flown to Walnut Ridge for storage and sales. Most trainers and transport were sold. 4,871 airplanes were scrapped and melted in two smelters which were constructed on the southwest end of the ramp. Included in the scrapping were 67 of the 118 B-32 bombers which were built near the end of the war. Sadly, no B-32 bombers were saved.
The museum preserves the rich history of the air field and honors those who served, and those who now serve to preserve America's Freedom.. - Submitted by Harold Johnson
